Central Bohemia: Historic Gothic Mining City and Bone Church<\/em><\/p>

The first stop will be a strange place, for some a bit morbid, for others attractive, for all totally unique. It is the bone church of the Chapel in Sedlec. Here, thousands of human bones, originally from the Middle Ages, were stacked into pyramids and transformed into artistic shapes. This created the unusually decorated space that perfectly illustrated the renowned motto of the Baroque period \u2018Memento mori\u2019.<\/p>

Then we proceed to Kutn\u00e1 Hora<\/span><\/strong>, a city that was the largest and most powerful in the Czech Kingdom in the 13th century. This was a time when one of the richest silver mines in Europe operated here. This exceptional development of the city also enabled the construction of the cathedral of St. Barbara, the patron saint of miners. Personally, the beauty of this daringly curved star vault never ceases to amaze me. Neither does the beauty of the surprisingly Art-Nouveau stained glass and medieval frescoes. Their authors sought inspiration not only in Biblical themes, but also in the everyday life of the miners, something absolutely unusual at the time. After our visit to the cathedral, we will explore this originally medieval city with its former Jesuit College that is now an important art gallery named GASK, as well as the St. Jacob church and the famous Italian Court.<\/p>\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\t<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

The tour of this medieval complex includes two parts that relate to different periods. For a long time, the court was the Central Mint of the kingdom where Italian mint masters handed down their artistry to their Czech counterparts. From the beginning of the 15th century, the palace was reconstructed into a royal residence, the Renaissance and Gothic part of which we will visit.
