Thanks to its sumptuousness and the beauty of its interiors, the Hluboká chateau is probably the most stunning of the surprising number of Czech and Moravian chateaus. It was reconstructed in the 19th century in a Neo-Gothic style by Eleonore of Schwarzenberg, who wished to make it into a mini replica of the Windsor chateau. Visitors can admire truly luxurious interiors, mostly richly inlaid with various kinds of wood, parlours boasting endless works of art from various periods and countries, a splendid library, as well as an armoury. Also, the surroundings of the chateau are exceptionally beautiful, as the chateau is located on a hill and surrounded by an English-style park. Tours are available from January to December.
Třeboň is a picturesque town in the midst of Southern Bohemia, adjoining the largest Czech pond, named Svět (World). During a short walk along its dam, the landscape mirrors the blue of the sky with the blue of the ponds. Carp became the symbol of Třeboň, the center of the Czech fish-pond industry since the Middle Ages. Its charming square, sporting Renaissance and Baroque facades neighbors a Renaissance chateau that was the seat of two of the most important Czech aristocratic families; the Rosenbergs and Schwarzenbergs. The slender tower of St. Giles church announces your arrival at Třeboň. The adjoining Augustinian monastery holds unexpected surprises: a series of mediaeval frescoes and the stunning limestone Madonna of Třeboň, part of a series of highly valued Bella Madonnas.
Holašovice (a UNESCO site) is a village that appears to have been cheerfully painted into a landscape full of greenery and blue ponds. It is formed by a small village-center enclosed by houses. Their facades are decorated with fanciful stucco decorations based on folk motifs. We will make a short stop here, because Holašovice is both a great photo opportunity and a place to rest our minds a bit.
